This delightful book goes a long way towards proving that grand juries can both stir a pot and whet an appetite. It includes recipes from the grand juries of California’s 58 counties with a summary of a grand jury report (recent and prior years'). These summaries are only a partial range of the topics and agencies that grand juries can investigate in the course of a year; they are sure to inspire the reader with a taste of the reporting power that grand juries have. Included with each titillating entry is a recipe submitted by a former grand juror or a relative/friend.

Mandated by Penal Code, each of California’s 58 grand juries produce annual final reports describing what they discovered while performing their role of oversight of local government. These reports contain findings and recommendations; the agencies involved are required to respond to the recommendations in writing.

While our association implicitly trusts all of the people who generously contributed recipes – after all, they are former grand jurors or their friends – we do not know their cooking skills, have not tested all of the recipes, and cannot guarantee the results. We are sure, however, that you will enjoy the read and get a good idea of what a grand jury may dish out.
